Turán Frigyes wins the 2019 European Rally Championship on Hankook race tires

2019. 11. 14

  • Won the rally where technical skills such as tire endurance and agility are important, outperforming other leading competitors
  • Demonstrated outstanding tire endurance technology that has overcome severe driving conditions, where over 40% of racing cars deviate from the course

Seoul, Korea, 14 November 2019 – Global leading premium tire maker, Hankook Tire (President & CEO Hyun Bum Cho) announced that Turán Frigyes, equipped with the   racing tires (for rally) of Hankook Tire, won the Rally Hungary 2019, the eighth round of the 2019 FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) held in Hungary from November 8 to 10.

Organized by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) in 1953, the European Rally Championship is a challenging motorsports competition that has to overcome extreme weather conditions and complete tough courses. The course not being a racing circuit but a road with extreme on and off-road conditions, the agility and robust durability of tires that respond to sudden changes in the roads also becomes significant.

The event ran a total distance of 1,001.7 kilometers (including the travel section) over three days, adding 14 special stages (211.5 kilometers) to determine the final winner. Despite the harsh weather conditions that led to the cancellation of the final special stage and forced more than 40 percent of 94 racing cars to deviate from the course in the middle of the race, Hankook Tire's anti-puncture performance played a significant role, beating global competitors such as Michelin and Pirelli, and wining the final rally with the fastest time.

Hankook Tire is showcasing its global technological prowess as a global top tier company by supplying racing tires or sponsoring participating teams to top-class global motorsports events as the DTM, F3 Americas and Formula Renault Eurocup. It is also leading the development of the motorsports culture by making special motorsports trailers to provide space for strategic meetings and rest for sponsoring teams, which is the first among the Korean automobile industry.
