Seoul, Korea, June 2, 2025 — In a high-voltage double-header weekend, global leading tire company Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook Tire) delivered another high-performance showcase at the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix, the brand’s second title race of the 2024/2025 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship (hereafter Formula E). Serving as the exclusive tire supplier and technical partner to Formula E, Hankook once again demonstrated strong, consistent performance across two back-to-back rounds at the renowned Shanghai International Circuit. Known for its demanding layout and high-speed configuration, the circuit posed a unique challenge with its combination of long straights, tight corners, and surface transitions between concrete and asphalt.
With strong tire performance underpinning their strategies, Maximilian Günther and Nick Cassidy captured thrilling victories in Rounds 10 and 11. Oliver Rowland stood his lead in the drivers’ standings with 171 points, and Tag Heuer Porsche Formula E Team dominated the teams’ championship, powered by the Porsche 99X Electric.
The track’s layout, inspired by the Chinese character delivering the optimal grip, consistency, and durability required to compete at the highest level of electric racing.
The Shanghai International Circuit—set against one of the world’s most electrifying cityscapes—featured a layout inspired by the Chinese character “上 ” (shàng), meaning “up above.” This symbolism came to life as teams and drivers pushed to their limits on a circuit defined by high-speed straights, sharp corners, and a mixed surface composition of asphalt and concrete that demand absolute precision.
Hankook’s GEN3 Evo iON Race tires rose to the occasion. Throughout the weekend, each team’s three allocated tire sets provided consistent grip and stability across variable track conditions, enabling drivers to navigate Shanghai’s complex layout with confidence.
Maximilian Günther of DS Penske reflected on the tire’s performance, stating: “The GEN3 Evo iON Race tire is unique—it’s engineered to perform across an incredibly wide range of conditions, from dry to wet, hot to cold. That’s impressive. It offers great grip and consistency in the dry while still working just as well in the wet. And unlike other series, we don’t switch to rain tires. This is a concept that carries over into road tires, which must perform in all conditions. From a technology standpoint, it’s truly fascinating.”
With the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix now concluded, Formula E now moves on to its final Asian round in Jakarta, Indonesia, set for June 21. As the championship race intensifies, Hankook continues to drive the future of electric mobility—pushing the boundaries of performance and innovation as the race to Season 11 glory enters its final stretch.
